I spent a couple of days with
Ron Goral out in
Long Beach, CA at the Solar Power 2007 Conference, and the conference was sold out completely.
The amount of interest was simply amazing. I felt like I was in Disney world over X-mas vacation.
One observation I made was that the supply of panels is extremely tight as appears that all the major panel manufacturers are supply constrained due to shortages of raw materials> Throw in the US dollar and ex- us panel manufactures prices are getting more expensive and US panel manufacturers prefer to ship ex-US given that there panels are much more affordable given the weak Us Dollar and in most cases get paid in other currencies beside dollars.(better economics) I think the panel manufacturers will remain supply constrained for next 12 months but the good news is that there is a huge amount of new manufacturers getting ready to enter the markets in the next 6-12 months. This should help, but do not see the supply demand correction getting sorted out any time soon. We met with all the major distributors and manufacturers and spent a lot of time comparing PV system components as well as trying to get a handle on changes in technology and where the industry is heading. We look forward to following up with many of our industry contacts in the near future to compare notes as well as following up on some of own company initiatives. Stay tuned as this industry is growing and changing rapidly.
